My Recent Experience With Myths, A Learning Journey
I most recently took part in a myth learning assignment where I eventually had to develop my own myth. Prior to participating in the creation of my own myth, I had very little knowledge of the characteristics and elements incorporated in myths. As far as I knew myths were generally very old stories that would usually address some kind of world wonder. I will say that studying myths and its elements definitely fostered a new sense of understanding for the subject. I was able to purposefully deploy myth tactics in the development of my myth. It was truly an eye opening experience that has not only enhanced my writing skills but also augmented the way I watch and understand films, specifically those that incorporate mythical characters such as the most recent Marvel Films that incorporate characters such as Thor and Loki who both express characteristics of a myth. As a matter of fact they are derived from myths!
Beyond that, I learned a ton of amazing strategies for teaching myths when I become a teacher. I really enjoyed the different approaches my classmates evoked in their projects along with the activities they provided for the class. I will be applying some of those in my classroom when addressing the topic of myths. I also think it was nice to assign it as a group assignment because it is such a multilayered subject. I think this would allow my future students to develop collaboration skills as well as build a more comfortable learning environment among the students. Overall, this experience has been an insightful encounter with myths, and I will use the knowledge I gained to enhance the learning experience of my future students.
I have attached a link to my own myth website where my myth is posted: Death the Myth
